Business Case

Given the complexity of the beauty category, brands and retailers want to extend centralized expert support for beauty products. The solution was to provide an ability for consumers to try different beauty products virtually, save the products they like, share the new look on social media or take a picture for future reference. Also, enable virtual chat with brand ambassadors to clarify questions about the product and help consumers decide on what’s right for their needs.


Augmented Reality enables the solution where consumers can learn more about the product content, manufacturing, and testing practices, etc., with the use of large displays as mirrors, allowing for the selection of different beauty products to be applied virtually. Without needing to apply different products onto your face, consumers feel enticed to try on more products virtually. They were able to share and get opinions from your friends and family instantly through text or social media.   ‘How-to’ training videos were made available for further training.

Engaged beauty advisors through a Zendesk plugin and a video chat that works in any mobile browser. By sending an SMS, a beauty advisor can initiate a video chat by replying with a link.

Result / Benefit

Both retailers and brands receive valuable information on consumers who were interested in the product, consumer feedback but additionally, retailers also receive consumer feedback on the customer service provided by beauty advisors. This system was quickly modified for online and the system allowed the brands to engage with consumers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The solution is now being extended for categories beyond cosmetics.
